Conserved Currents and Gauge Invariance

In electrodynamics, the same local conservation law for the charge/current density can be derived using either of two different methods. One method relies on the equation of motion for the electromagnetic field, and the other method uses only the equation of motion for the charged matter. This article explains why both methods lead to the same conservation law.
